The school encourages parents to support their children in completing homework.
HELPERS
The school always welcomes help, in school, on visits and at sporting fixtures. Please contact Reception if you feel you are able to give any time to supporting our staff and pupils.
COMMUNITY
We are proud of our community involvement. The Sportshall provides a focal point for local sporting activities, and our facilities are used by diverse groups. We have links with local churches, and entertain the community with our music.
GOVERNORS
The Governing Body takes a full part in the life of the school. Meetings are held regularly. Pupil ‘Associate’ Governors attend full Governors’ Meetings to give pupils’ views on the day to day running of the school.
EXTENDED SCHOOLS
As a partner in the Ventnor Extended Schools we wholeheartedly support the statement set out below. We aim to help meet not only the school’s objectives but also to share in helping to meet the needs of every individual child, every individual young person, their family and community.
‘An extended school is a school that recognises that it cannot work alone in helping children and young people to achieve their potential, and therefore decides to work in partnership with other agencies that have an interest in outcomes for children and young people, and with the local community. In doing so, it aims to help meet not only the school’s objectives but also to share in helping to meet the wider needs of children, young people, families and their community.’ (DfES 2004)
HOME AND SCHOOL
We wish to promote strong links between home and school, and to work in close co-operation to benefit the pupils. Parents are required to sign a Home – School Contract upon entry.
A weekly drop-in ‘surgery’ is held Mondays 3.30 – 3.45pm, where staff will be available to see both parents and pupils, to deal with matters of concern.
Parents are invited to a ‘Meet the Teacher Evening’ in September.
Each Form Tutor is available for parental consultation between 8am and 4pm on a specified date in Term 3.
Parents are encouraged to contact the school should any problem arise.
· The Office will provide any information concerning the day to day running of the school.
· The Form Tutor will answer any queries regarding classwork, homework, progress etc. THE FORM TUTOR SHOULD ALWAYS BE FIRST CONTACT.
· The Upper or Lower School Leader will provide support for more serious pastoral matters.
· The Senior Management Team will respond to the most serious matters.
· If parents feel their concerns have not been addressed, they should make a formal complaint to the Chair of Governors via the Office.
